The process of construction

on the Great Wall

Figure 1: The Great Wall.

"The construction of the wall with the insurance system due to different terrain "is an important experience of building the Great Wall, which has been definitely put it down in the emperor's time. Sima Qian wrote it in the famous book called "Historical Records". We must keep in mind that each subsequent dynasty carried out the construction of the Great Wall in accordance with this principle. As we know, nearly all the strategic posts are chosen between two mountains and valleys, or turning point of rivers, or the lands, so that it can not only strategically control the steep terrains, but also save manpower and materials to achieve the perfect effect as follow:" If one man guards the pass, ten thousand are unable to get through".

We never fail to notice that, no matter the beacons or castle, we are obliged to choose the special situation. As for the construction of walls, we must make full use of terrain, such as the Great Wall of Juyong guan and Bada ling, is built along the ridges, and some sections looked very dangerous from the outside of the wall, while inside is great gentle, in order to achieve the amazing effect and easily defensible impact. In the territory of Liaodong Town, in Liaoning Province, Great Wall of there is a known dangerous mountain wall in the Ming Dynasty. This kind of wall is to use cliffs, after cutting down a few cliffs, the left cliffs have become the Great Wall. In some places, the ancient working people took full advantage of cliffs, rivers and lakes as a natural barrier. So I really can say that it absolutely is a nature's intricate work. As a great project, The Great Wall undoubtedly becomes a valuable heritage in China.

June 25, 2001, as the ancient buildings from Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods of China to Ming Dynasty, the Great Walls, were included in a list of key national heritage conservation by the State Council in China.

From the process of construction of the Great Wall, we can conclude that any great work of art is of course derived from the artist's inspiration and hard work of many working people. The establishment of the Great Wall of China, though it seems that it is due to the strategic needs, but in later stage, it has gradually evolved into an art.
