The History of Wu/Hao Taiji
Wu-style Taiji Quan originated in the Qing Dynasty when the China was reigned by Xianfeng Emperor. The creator was Wu, Yuxiang who was born in Yongnia county, HeBei Province. So far, it is about 130 years of history.
Wu, Yuxiang was very fond of martial arts at his early age. He practiced Chen-style Taiji Quan of Old Frame, being taught by Master Chen, Qingping. At the same period he also got a book named "Taijiquan spectrum" which contains the overall topics of Taiji Quan. Based on his research of the book and his own experience in practicing Taiji Quan, he created Wu-style Taijiquan. After that he was practicing Wu Taiji Quan diligently and he summarized the rationale and diligent practice to write several representative books of Taiji theory. These books were written concisely.
Wu, Yuxiang’s nephew Li, Yishe, leaned Taiji Quan with Mr. Wu from the beginning in 1853. Mr. Wu uphold the simultaneous civil and military, improve the record by Mr. Wu's Taiji Quan theory, then, he taught Hao, Yi Quan ( At that time, Mr. Li and Hao are neighbors). From then on, Wu-style Taiji Quan was inherited by Hao family. As a result, since Hao family developed and taught the Wu-style Taiji for a long time, so for decades, it was also known as "Hao style Taiji Quan.”
